Dodgers Make Multiple Roster Moves, Recall Charlie Barnes and Transfer Will Smith to 60-Day IL
The Dodgers recalled Charlie Barnes from Triple-A, transferred Will Smith to the 60-day injured list, and optioned Landon Knack before Game 2 in Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA, PA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers await a thunderstorm to pass over Citizens Bank Park before Game Two versus the Philadelphia Phillies, the team announced several roster moves, including a fresh new arm for the bullpen.
Before tonight’s game, the Dodgers announced that they’ve selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
For Barnes, it’s his third stint with the Dodgers this season after being DFA’d after allowing seven runs across seven innings in his July relief outing, where he pitched the bulk of the game.
After that outing, the team opted to move on from Barnes, activating right-hander Landon Knack from the 60-day IL. Barnes ended up clearing waivers and opted to remain with the Dodgers organization.
The 30-year-old has appeared in parts of three Major League seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2021), Chicago Cubs (2026), and Dodgers (2026). Across 50 career innings, he owns a 0-4 record with a 6.30 ERA.
Will Smith Transferred to 60-day IL
In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Barnes’ activation, the Dodgers transferred catcher Will Smith to the 60-day IL.
Smith is now entering his seventh week on the injured list with a lingering neck injury after being shut down from baseball activities last week due to continued discomfort. His move to the 60-day injured list means he is ineligible to return until Aug. 10th, though the Dodgers were not expecting him back before then.
Los Angeles remains hopeful Smith will return at some point this season, but his timeline remains uncertain. The earliest realistic target appears to be mid-August, although another setback could push his return into September—or potentially keep him sidelined for the remainder of the year.
Before the injury, the 31-year-old was batting .249/.338/.382 with five doubles, six home runs, and 23 RBI in 52 games.
Landon Knack Optioned to Triple-A
Going back to Triple-A as the corresponding move on the 26-man roster is right-hander Landon Knack, who pitched two innings in relief during the Dodgers' 10-7 loss to the Phillies on Monday.
Over three seasons with the Dodgers, the 28-year-old has gone 6-7 with a 4.33 ERA across 27 appearances, including 19 starts. Los Angeles selected him in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of East Tennessee State University.
