Dodgers Get Concerning Gavin Stone Update as Bobby Miller Progresses in Rehab
Dave Roberts provides a troubling Gavin Stone injury update while Bobby Miller discusses his recovery and prepares to throw off a mound.

PHOENIX, AZ—As par for the course, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been hit hard in the injury department this season, particularly in the starting rotation with arms such as Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow set to miss an extended period of time.
However, one arm that many fans, including myself, were excited to see return this summer was right-hander Gavin Stone, who had his 2024 breakout season end prematurely due to right shoulder surgery.
After missing the entire 2025 season due to rehab from that surgery, Stone was poised to make an impact for the Dodgers in 2026, either in the starting rotation or as a swingman from the team’s bullpen.
Neither happened, as Stone has been MIA since his first Cactus League appearance due to right shoulder soreness, which prompted the team to shut him down.
Not much has been known about Stone’s whereabouts other than the right-hander resumed throwing, per Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes last month, but now we have a much clearer picture from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
“He’s one that I’m really bummed out about. I think his makeup is off the charts, good, compete. Right now, his body’s just letting him down a little bit. There’s nothing else he can do. When he … ramps it up, it sort of shows itself again. So right now, I’m not sure exactly where he’s at in this progression. But I’m looking forward to seeing him, though.”
It’s an unfortunate update for Stone, and the Dodgers are concerned with the health of the current starting rotation; his services would be needed.
The update also clouds Stone’s possible return timeline and whether he’ll even make an impact for the Dodgers this season.
Another added ripple for Stone’s health is it also decreased the right-hander’s trade value as the Dodgers continue to be linked to left-hander Tarik Skubal in trade talks, the 27-year-old would be a logical man to frontline those conversations.
Bobby Miller Speaks on Frustrating Injury Path
Bobby Miller was one of several injured pitchers who joined the Dodgers in Arizona this week as they continue to rehab and ramp up at the team’s Spring Training facility in Glendale.
Miller, 27, has had his career flipped upside down after a dominant rookie season, finishing the 2024 and 2025 seasons in the minors, and when the right-hander looked to prove himself this spring, he went on the IL with a shoulder injury.
Miller, in a crowd full of reporters, admitted that it wasn’t just the shoulder injury that set him back at the start this season, but also a back issue that forced him to slow-play his throwing progression.
“It was shoulder at first. I had some injections right before spring training. It was pretty good. Then I had a setback with a back injury. But it’s all great right now. I haven’t had any setbacks since that. I’ve been getting stronger and stronger.”
As mentioned earlier, Miller has been a shell of himself over the last two seasons, posting an 8,65 ERA across 15 MLB appearances.
Due to that lack of success and hunger to return to the MLB roster, Miller is set to begin throwing off the mound this week, a significant step in his recovery.
Miller, like last season, is also open to the idea of either continuing his career as a starter or as a relief pitcher, which the team attempted to do last season in Triple-A.
